Fresh or Frozen Trader Joe’s cauliflower rice (plain)

My Trader Joe’s cauliflower rice review

I love having a bag of this rice in the freezer at all times. If I’m making something like tikki masala or butter chicken, it’s perfect to use instead of rice with a pita. If I want to make meatballs, substituting cauliflower rice instead of bread crumbs is a genius way to lighten them up at a really good price of only 2-3 dollars a bag.

Cauliflower rice doesn’t have much flavor itself, so I’m mostly using it in recipes with other ingredients to get extra nutrients onto the plates of my sous vide pulled pork loving husband and tater tot loving toddler.

    Recipe serving ideas

There are so many creative ways to spruce up cauliflower rice. Here are some of my go-to’s.

    • Meatballs. Slow cook these beef meatballs with cauliflower rice. They’re keto friendly and so delicious! Photo below.
    • Steak. Make it a steak dinner with one of these potato side dishes and air fryer filet mignon with a drizzle of jalapeno ranch dressing.
    • Add it to lasagna. Great idea to add volume and nutrition to keto lasagna with almond flour noodles. Use this basil pesto spinach for even more vitamins.
    • Cauliflower rice recipe at bottom of this post. See the amped-up cilantro lime Trader Joe’s cauliflower rice recipe at the bottom of this post for more ideas.

    Recipe serving ideas

Make it a power-lunch or dinner by adding even more healthy veggies to the frozen ones. That’s what I like to do when there is leftover produce left at the end of the week in my fridge like kale and avocado. See this recipe for my vegetable stir fry with cauliflower rice.

Side shot of Trader Joe’s riced cauliflower stir fry mix with vegetables in an easy stir fry.

    Trader Joe’s riced cauliflower bowl

You know, this cauliflower bowl with vegetables is basically a complete meal in itself for a WFH lunch or take-to-work lunch.

    Recipe serving ideas

If I have a busy day and need a quick and easy meal for dinner just for myself, I’ll cook up a cauliflower rice bowl from Trader Joe’s and serve it with:

    • One of my make-ahead Mexican salads
    • Strawberry salad with feta.

    Trader Joe’s riced cauliflower stuffing

This is such an exciting side dish from Trader Joe’s. It has sweet and sour flavors and really does taste like stuffing made with cauliflower rice.

    Nutrition Information and ingredients

Here’s the Trader Joe’s riced cauliflower stuffing nutrition information per serving of 1 cup, from My Fitness Pal.

    Recipe serving ideas

    • Use it as a T-day short cut. Serve it for Thanksgiving with sous vide turkey breast and sous vide little potatoes.
    • Make a steak dinner even more gourmet. Serve it for a Christmas or other special holiday with sous vide prime rib.
    • Just add chicken. Serve under pan seared chicken breast.

    Trader Joe’s Mexican cauliflower rice

The Mexican cauliflower rice from Trader Joe’s doesn’t appear to be available at all the stores all the time… making it a… collectors item? I dunno! But it’s delicious so pick it up if you see it.

    Recipe serving ideas

Use the Mexican cauliflower rice from Trader Joe’s in these recipes:

    • Tacos! I don’t know why I added an exclamation there, except for the fact that tacos with marinated flank steak and sous vide tri tip have been my go-to lately. Tacos are so delicious. So add this cauliflower rice as a substitute for regular rice to tacos to lighten ‘em up. Serve with tasty cotija cheese.
    • Burritos. Make-ahead and freeze, then cook frozen air fryer burritos. They come out perfectly crisp in the air fry machine.
    • DIY fajita bowls. Load ‘em up sous vide shrimp and sautéed onions and peppers, too.

    How to cook cauliflower rice

You can use these directions for most of the cauliflower rice products from Trader Joe’s. They all need very few ingredients, unless you really want to spice things up.

Option 1: Cauliflower rice cooking instructions Trader Joe’s way

You can cook Trader Joe’s cauliflower rice in the microwave (for 1-2 minutes with 1 tbsp water for every cup of rice, stirring regularly).

The package gives you directions for the stove top. My version below is an amplified and more delicious way to cook it with some added flavor. (because cauliflower rice can get soggy and be a little bland otherwise)

Option 2: My way to make Trader Joe’s riced cauliflower taste better

Okay, so what I do is add a few seasonings here and there to make plain cauliflower rice taste better.

Top down shot of Frozen Trader Joe's Organic Riced Cauliflower bag.

How to make Trader Joe’s cauliflower rice (my way)

I always think I can cook things better than store bought packages, and cauliflower rice is definitely one of those things.

Ingredients needed for flavorful cauliflower rice

    • Butter (substitute olive oil)
    • Garlic, minced
    • Trader Joe’s cauliflower rice, frozen or fresh (1 bag)
    • A little water
    • Cilantro, fresh chopped
    • Lime, fresh juice and zest
    • Salt

    Cooking instructions

    1. In a small frying pan, add butter and garlic. Saute on medium or medium-low, stirring constantly until the garlic becomes translucent and fragrant, but before it starts to burn. Remove from heat. At the same time, or right after, move on to the next step.
    2. Add Trader Joe’s cauliflower rice (from frozen or fresh) to a large pan on the stove on medium heat with 2 tbsp of water. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes. Frozen cauliflower may take an additional 30 seconds. Check to see. You don’t want cauliflower rice that is mushy or soggy, it should be soft but still have texture and the water should cook out. Turn off the burner, but keep the pan on the stove to add in the cauliflower mixins.
    3. Add garlic butter, cilantro, lime juice and zest, and salt. Toss to combine and serve immediately.

Ingredients to add to cauliflower rice

    • Corn
    • Sous vide asparagus
    • Feta cheese
    • Bleu cheese
    • Roasted broccoli
    • Sautéed onions and peppers
    • Sautéed mushrooms
    • Roasted cherry tomatoes

More recipes using Trader Joe’s ingredients

Are you a Trader Joe’s enthusiast, too? I love planning grocery trips to Trader Joe’s. It’s almost like a vacation… strolling up and down the aisles to discover new things. When I come home, I’m inspired to develop new recipes.

My best recipes using Trader Joe’s products end up here on Sip Bite Go…

    • Cauliflower Rice. Use it in place of bread crumbs in Hawaiian pineapple bbq meatballs and as a filling for cheesy Italian stuffed peppers. Also try it in a vegetable stir fry with cauliflower rice.
    • Ready Made Pizza Dough. I’m a huge fan of making pizza at home and have extensive information on how to use Trader Joe’s Pizza Dough.
    • Frozen Pizza Crust. Learn how to make frozen pizza crust taste amazing.
    • Everything But The Bagel Seasoning. This is super delicious on focaccia bread with Everything Bagel Seasoning.
    • Frozen Gyoza and Potstickers. These are great in frozen vegetable stir frys. See my guide to Trader Joe’s chicken cilantro mini wontons or Trader Joe’s vegetable gyoza.
    • Frozen Ravioli. Sometimes I just serve it with tomato sauce. Other times, I go a little nuts and make ravioli pizza with store bought Alfredo sauce.
    • Spice Kits. Did you know you can buy Trader Joe’s products online? This Trader Joe’s spice kit inspires so many recipes in my house.
    • Cheese. The cheese case at Trader Joe’s is undeniably amazing. Use it for potatoes gratin with frozen vegetables, this recipe for baked shells with ground beef, or in potato side dish recipes.

    Hey, I’m Jenna Passaro.

I develop easy recipes that can transform your kitchen into a restaurant – and you into a true home chef.

    Where to start?

Learn the secrets to smoking tasty Traeger recipes and making pizza at home. And cook amazing tri tip steak dinners.

Or, fall in love with something new to cook with your air fryer, pellet smoker, BBQ grill, sous vide cooker, and more…

You’ll notice, I kind of geek out over new cooking trends and tools!

    Instagram me @sipbitego & chef hubs @handmodelpatrick

My story. Growing up, I didn’t learn to cook.

(I was actually banned from cooking for years)

And then in my 20’s I didn’t have to cook because my job as an event planner involved a lot of travel and it was easier to eat out. At the time, I was 100% positive that restaurant food would always taste better than cooking at home, and there was nothing I could do about it.

Until I fell in love with a chef. He would come over and cook me delicious meals right in my own kitchen. My mind was blown.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to figure out easy ways to make restaurant style food at home and share it here on Sip Bite Go.

Love to eat out and travel? I can totally relate. See my guide on where to eat in Portland, OR.

Never in a million years did I imagine I’d ditch the 9-5 lifestyle in my late 20’s, move across the country on a whim, start a new life, start a food blog, and write a book.

    But here I am!
