They’re my #1 air fryer cookie recipe because…

    • Most soft cookies, EVER. Baking with the chocolate chip cookies air fryer cooking method, you’ll take them out of the air fry machine and wonder if they’re even done cooking… that’s how soft they are! But after a few minutes of cool down time (if you can resist biting in), they set and are ready to eat.
    • It’s easy to air fry cookies in small batches. Easily make cookies for one, or for two.
    • Freeze balls of cookie dough for baking from frozen later.
    • They keep for days. Store them in an airtight container for up to 5 days!
    • This air fryer recipe makes about 20-25 cookies.

Ingredients for air fryer chocolate chip cookie dough

Making chocolate chip cookies air fryer style requires a handful of ingredients that come together quickly to make one of the softest cookies you’d ever tried. Here’s what you need to make them…

Chart of captions and ingredients for air fryer chocolate chip cookie dough recipe.
    • Butter
    • Sugar
    • Brown sugar
    • Eggs
    • Vanilla extract (and a little almond extract if you have it)
    • Salt
    • Baking soda
    • All purpose flour
    • Chocolate (I like a crushed chocolate bar, but chips work, too)

How to make air fryer chocolate chip cookies

Now let’s walk exactly how to make them. You can use either a stand mixer or a handheld mixer to make the cookie batter.

Step 1. Cream butter and sugar for air fryer chocolate chip cookies. Prepare a stand mixer or hand mixer. To a large mixing bowl, add softened melted butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Mix with an electronic mixer on medium-high speed for 2-3 minutes, until blended, smooth and fluffy.

Step 2. Add wet and dry ingredients to cook cookie batter. Add eggs, extract, and salt. Beat again on medium-high speed for 20 seconds to combine. Add all of the baking soda and about ¼ of the flour into the air fryer chocolate chip cookie batter. Mix on medium-high for 20 seconds. Scrape down dough from edges of the bowl.

Add the rest of the flour in the same increments, mixing 20 seconds in between, scraping down dough as you go, until all the flour has been added. Reserve on the side, 2 tbsp chocolate chips or crushed chocolate bar. Add the rest of the chocolate chips to the cookie batter and gently fold in with a large spoon or spatula.

Step 3. Prepare air fryer for chocolate chip cookies. Remove the air fryer basket and preheat the air fryer to 350ºF for 5 minutes. Cut a piece of parchment paper to fit the size of the bottom of the air fryer basket or the size of the cookie sheet if you’re using an oven style air fryer for chocolate chip cookies.

Step 4. Make balls of cookie dough. You will have to air fry cookies in batches, or refrigerate or freeze the rest to bake them later. I recommend forming cookie dough balls whether or not you’re using them now. Divide the chocolate chip cookie batter into 2 tbsp balls.

Tip for working with cookie dough: Don’t overwork them, because you will add them to the air fryer basket and smoosh them with your hands into the shape of a round disk / cookie. Spraying your fingers with cooking spray can help move the balls of dough with ease.

The cookies will expand slightly in size when they bake in the air fryer, so only add 4 cookies to a standard size air fryer basket. Make sure they have 1-2” of space in between. Before baking, add a little of the reserved chocolate to the top of the cookies.

Step 5. Air fry chocolate chip cookies. After much recipe testing, I noticed and want to inform you that if the cookies are even slightly larger than 2 tbsp each, or touch during the cooking process, it will change the cooking time needed for chocolate chip air fryer cookies.

Bake for 6 minutes at 350ºF if you’re using the Phillips XXL Air Fryer like mine. Depending on your model of air fryer and size of cookies, you will need between 5-7 minutes of air frying time.

After they bake, let cookies sit in the air fryer for another 1 minute. Then, use a spatulata to transfer the cookies to a baking rack to cool and set for 5 minutes. Then enjoy!

Once you learn how to make chocolate chip cookies in an air fryer, you might never make them in the oven again — seriously!

FAQs for making chocolate chip cookies in the air fryer

Baking cookies in a Phillips air fryer?

The “sweet spot” for this cookie recipe’s cooking temperature and time for my Phillips XXL Air Fryer is 6 minutes, with an additional 1 minute resting in the air fryer (with heat off). It’s important to transfer the cookies to a baking sheet to cool to room temperature.

How do you know air fryer chocolate chip cookies are done?

Warning: it will be very difficult not to start nibbling them before they “set”! When you pull out the air fryer basket, you’ll notice the cookies are very, very soft, and if you bump them or bend them with a spatula, it will change the shape.

What does it mean to “cream butter and sugar”?

Creaming butter and sugar is the term for the baking prep method where you mix butter and sugar together, usually using an electronic hand mixer or stand mixer, at a high speed until smooth and fluffy. You’ll find this method of whipping butter and sugar together as the base for many cake and cookie recipes.

What if your air fryer cookies look raw?

They should be perfect after setting for a few minutes. But if they set and for some reason the bottom looks raw, just pop ‘em back in the air fryer for 2 minutes.

Any tips for cooking air fry chocolate chip cookies in batches?

If you want to make all of the air fryer cookie dough at the same time, I recommend cutting out two pieces of parchment paper the same size as your air fryer basket. This way you can prep one batch while the other cooks, and just swap out the sheet of parchment paper.

Can you refrigerate or freeze chocolate chip cookie dough?

Yes, you can meal prep this recipe by making the whole batch of cookie dough then freezing the excess for later. I recommend freezing them in disk shapes instead of a ball, because then you can cook directly from the freezer. To do this, push down the center of the ball of cookie dough before freezing and freeze the batch on a sheet tray. Transfer to a bag when they are frozen and freeze for up to 2 months.

Can you air fry frozen cookie dough?

Yes, just adjust the time settings. To cook frozen chocolate chip cookies in an air fryer, either transfer them to the refrigerator overnight or at least 6 hours before cooking them so they can thaw, or cook from frozen by adding on ~3-5 minutes to the overall cooking time.

How long do air fried chocolate chip cookies stay good for?

They’ll stay fresh and soft for up to 5 days in an airtight container.

Can I open my air fryer while cooking to check if my chocolate chip cookies look done?

Yes, you can! If you air fryer opens from the side or front, it’s perfectly okay to open your air fryer to check whether your chocolate chip cookies are browning nicely. Don’t check too often though, or they’ll cook that much slower!

What can I serve with air fryer chocolate chip cookies?

These cookies are perfectly good as a stand alone snack, or served, still warm, with a tall glass of cold milk. You can also serve them as a dessert after a one-pot family dinner like my cheesy Italian stuffed shells.

    Are you a foodie, too?

Hey home chefs, I want to know what you think and see photos of your air fryer cookies! Make me jealous and show me all the mixins you use (mmm… peanut butter chips and chopped walnuts are so good in these!!). Find me on Instagram @sipbitego to tag me and connect.

And shout out to the hubs. This recipe was inspired by my husband who asked me one night after cooking air fryer chicken wings, “can you make chocolate chip cookies in an air fryer?”. Now that I nailed the cook time, he keeps asking, “when are you going to make more of those air fryer cookies?”. He’s a chocoholic. So I told him that every-time someone makes this recipe from his inspiration, I’ll make him another batch. Haha.

    Hey, I’m Jenna Passaro.

I develop easy recipes that can transform your kitchen into a restaurant – and you into a true home chef.

    Where to start?

Learn the secrets to smoking tasty Traeger recipes and making pizza at home. And cook amazing tri tip steak dinners.

Or, fall in love with something new to cook with your air fryer, pellet smoker, BBQ grill, sous vide cooker, and more…

You’ll notice, I kind of geek out over new cooking trends and tools!

My story. Growing up, I didn’t learn to cook.

(I was actually banned from cooking for years)

And then in my 20’s I didn’t have to cook because my job as an event planner involved a lot of travel and it was easier to eat out. At the time, I was 100% positive that restaurant food would always taste better than cooking at home, and there was nothing I could do about it.

Until I fell in love with a chef. He would come over and cook me delicious meals right in my own kitchen. My mind was blown.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to figure out easy ways to make restaurant style food at home and share it here on Sip Bite Go.

Love to eat out and travel? I can totally relate. See my guide on where to eat in Portland, OR.

Never in a million years did I imagine I’d ditch the 9-5 lifestyle in my late 20’s, move across the country on a whim, start a new life, start a food blog, and write a book.

    But here I am!
