Detailed grilled shrimp recipe…
- Devein jumbo shrimp before grilling. To do this, remove a shrimp from the bag.
Peel shrimp over a large bowl (using gloves is a great idea).
We leave the tail on the shrimp so it’s easy to hold when serving.
Set peeled shrimp on a plate or another surface that’s easy to clean. Next, use a paring knife to cut a line down the length of the shrimp, and to remove the vein.
Toss shrimp in a mixing bowl.
- Season shrimp with the marinade. Add all the seasonings to the bowl of deveined shrimp (garlic, curly parsley, salt, pepper, olive oil, lemon juice).
Toss to combine the grilled shrimp marinade.
Only marinate in the fridge for up to 30 minutes, so shrimp doesn’t get mushy.
- OPTIONAL – Add shrimp to kebab sticks to make flipping them on the grill easier.
- Preheat gas grill to high (about 500 degrees F). We like to rub a little olive oil on the grill grates carefully without catching on fire, before grilling the shrimp. So it doesn’t stick.
- Grill jumbo shrimp on high heat for 90 seconds to about 2 minutes, with the grill lid closed over direct heat (right above flame).
- Flip shrimp and grill for 1-2 minutes more, or until they curl up, turn orange and are done to an internal temperature of 120 degrees F. Enjoy.

FAQs
Not long at all! Only leave shrimp in the lemon juice marinade for ~15 minutes in the fridge before grilling… because if you leave it over 30 minutes, it breaks down the shrimp too much, and causes it to become mushy.
Grilling at 500 degrees F, shrimp will be fully cooked within 1.5 – 2 minutes flipping halfway through.
You can season shrimp however you like when grilling them. I like to make a little garlic and lemon grilled shrimp marinade. Alternatively you can season grilled shrimp with just salt and pepper if you want to keep things simple.
You should definitely serve grilled shrimp with a cocktail sauce, preferably homemade if you have the time.
Grilled shrimp also pairs nicely over some cooked rice or added to your favorite salad. If serving as an appetizer for a party, serve grilled shrimp with grilled steak medallions for a surf n’ turf spin.
When making grilled shrimp skewers, you can use either metal or wooden skewers. If using wooden skewers, you’ll need to start by soaking them in water first. That way they won’t burn on the hot grill.
Take a shrimp and push it into a “C” shape. You’ll then place the skewer right through the center of the “C” shaped shrimp. Once pierced, push the shrimp down the skewer to make room for more shrimp.

Meat thermometer recommendations
Every home chef needs a reliable meat thermometer to cook food perfectly.
On Sip Bite Go, you’ll often see me using:
- Meater thermometer – a fancy wireless thermometer that connects to a phone app – gifted to me from a Traeger partnership.
- ThermoPro digital thermometer – which has a wire that connects the thermometer to a display box outside the oven/grill.
It’s like being psychic! The great thing about either of the thermometers above is that I don’t have to take the food out of the oven to know the temperature.
How to use ‘em… What I do is stick the digital thermometer in steak, pork, chicken, whatever… Then put the food in the oven, on the smoker, or grill.
While the meat cooks, it reads the temperature so I know exactly what temp meat is as it’s cooking. Without having to take it out and check. It’s really difficult to overcook food when you know exactly what temp it is inside!
