Why air fryer frozen sweet potato tots are amazing

    • Easy, fast recipe.
    • This makes crispy tater tots that are SUPER crispy.
    • Healthier than fried tater tots. No olive oil or deep frying in extra oil need!
    • Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C.
    • Kids love sweet potato air fryer tots – they’re an easy snack.
    • It’s a super fast side dish. This frozen sweet potato tots air fryer recipe is on repeat for my toddler’s dinner because it’s so fast to make. My husband and I gobble them up, too.
    • Simple cleanup.

Also try these crock pot sweet potatoes.

    Ingredients

You just need a couple of ingredients for cooking frozen sweet potato tots in an air fryer.

    • 20 oz sweet potato tots, frozen – See the freezer section for grocery store frozen sweet potato tots. They’re always on my Trader Joe’s must have’s list and I’ve tried quite a few different brands with great results.
    • Honey mustard dressing (optional) – Or any other favorite dipping sauces.
    • Cilantro (optional)
    • Cooking oil spray if you’re not using a nonstick air fryer.

Note: You can also sprinkle a little paprika, garlic powder, seasoning salt or favorite seasonings for flavor. Add them before you cook frozen tater tots in the air fryer.

How to cook frozen sweet potato tots in air fryer

These frozen sweet potato tater tots only take a few steps in the air fryer. My method is the best way for flipping them as they cook. After several tests, it has the best results.

    1. Preheat air fryer to 400ºF for 5 minutes. While you heat your air fryer, spray air fryer basket with cooking spray if desired.
    2. Add frozen sweet potato tots to air fryer basket. Air fry for 15 minutes on 400 degrees F, gently flipping every 5 minutes, until they are crisp and lightly browning on the outside. Sweet potato tots cooked in the air fryer are softer then regular tater tots. Cut into one, and if it’s steaming inside and slightly crisp on the outside, it’s ready to take out. Add 5 minutes to your air fryer cooking time for super crispy sweet potato tots.
    3. Transfer air fried sweet potato tots to cool for a few minutes on a serving platter (they will harden up a bit).
    4. Serve with honey mustard dressing or any favorite sauces you have for dipping and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro to add fresh flavor.

You can cook vegetable air fryer frozen tater tots similarly. Posts are coming for those recipes on Sip Bite Go soon. Homemade tots that aren’t frozen that are cooked in the air fryer usually don’t require as long to cook.

    FAQs

Do sweet potato tots need to be in a single layer in the air fryer basket?

When I make these, I use an entire bag of sweet potato tots and they fill up more than one layer than my Phillips Air Fryer XL basket. Because this air fryer recipe requires flipping, the sweet potato tots circulate enough to get nice and crisp. I haven’t tried making them in smaller air fryers.

Do you need to shake sweet potato tots in the basket?

Instead of shaking the air fryer basket, use a plastic spatula or tongs to gently move the tater tots around every 5 minutes. I prefer turning them this way to make sure they evenly cook.

What dishes can you make with tater tots?

Have you heard of tater tot nachos? Make them with these sweet potato tots – see this roundup of gourmet nachos recipes for inspiration.

Hey home chefs, once you learn how easy it is to make frozen sweet potato tater tots in air fryer, there are so many other air fryer recipes for kids to try. Many of them are friendly to make ahead or for fitting into existing meal plans – and no, I’m not just talking about regular ol’ air fryer french fry recipes or these air fryer chicken wings I’ve been sharing a lot on Instagram lately.

    Hey, I’m Jenna Passaro.

I develop easy recipes that can transform your kitchen into a restaurant – and you into a true home chef.

    Where to start?

Learn the secrets to making pizza at home. And cook amazing tri tip steak dinners.

Or, fall in love with something new to cook with your air fryer, pellet smoker, BBQ grill, sous vide cooker, and more…

You’ll notice, I kind of geek out over new cooking trends and tools!

    Instagram me @sipbitego & chef hubs @handmodelpatrick

My story. Growing up, I didn’t learn to cook.

(I was actually banned from cooking for years)

And then in my 20’s I didn’t have to cook because my job as an event planner involved a lot of travel and it was easier to eat out. At the time, I was 100% positive that restaurant food would always taste better than cooking at home, and there was nothing I could do about it.

Until I fell in love with a chef. He would come over and cook me delicious meals right in my own kitchen. My mind was blown.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to figure out easy ways to make restaurant style food at home and share it here on Sip Bite Go.

Love to eat out and travel? I can totally relate. See my guide on where to eat in Portland, OR.

Never in a million years did I imagine I’d ditch the 9-5 lifestyle in my late 20’s, move across the country on a whim, start a new life, start a food blog, and write a book.

    But here I am!
