FAQs
You can keep leftover turkey in the fridge for three to four days, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy these sandwiches after your holiday dinner! If you’ve got more turkey than can be squared away in that time frame, feel free to stick it in the freezer and defrost when you’re ready for sandwich-making.
If you’re looking for the best cheese for turkey sandwiches, the good news is that almost any cheese will work. But here’s the official rule: turkey and avocado sandwiches are best with milder cheeses that don’t overpower the turkey flavor. Provolone, mozzarella, Monterey jack, Gouda and cheddar cheeses are all good options. Though my husband loves to use swiss cheese.
All things in moderation– but seriously, turkey is widely considered one of the healthiest protein sources there are. It is an especially rich source of B vitamins, and contains B3, B6, and B12. These vitamins keep you energetic, support amino acid formation and are key in the formation of your red blood cells.
These turkey sandwiches are delicious with anything leftover from your Thanksgiving menu. Or make them with my chilled zucchini soup — or serve them up with a fresh summer salad. Some of our favorites these days include this fresh blueberry salad, peach salad, and blue cheese coleslaw.

Why it’s the best sandwich for turkey leftovers
This recipe is my go-to when we have leftover turkey from Thanksgiving. I’ve found that these particular ingredients completely eliminate what disappoints most people about day-after turkey: the dryness.
My preference is to add in some healthy smashed avocado, a little creamy dressing, and juicy fresh vegetables. All those tasty things add flavor, balance out dry turkey, and make this a really good, satisfying sandwich.
