- Cooking spray
For the garlic parmesan dry rub
- Garlic powder

- Fresh garlic
- Italian seasoning
- Parmesan cheese
- Red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper
For serving

How to season garlic parmesan wings with dry rub
Use a paper towel to pat chicken wings dry. In a small bowl, mix together garlic powder, salt, and baking powder (only use baking powder for baked garlic parmesan chicken wings). Sprinkle dry rub on wings so they’re completely coated with seasonings.
How to make AIR FRYER garlic parmesan chicken wings
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 5 minutes. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and add wings to the basket with the skin side up so they are not touching, or just barely touching. You may have to stand some wings up on the side or bake them in batches.
- Air fry chicken wings for 25 minutes, flipping them (shaking the basket isn’t enough to thoroughly cook them) about halfway through at the 15 minute mark.
- Then increase the air fryer cooking temperature to 400°F, flip the chicken wings, and cook them for an additional 8-10 minutes until the thickest part of the thickest wing reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Test multiple wings to make sure they are done. Air fry wings that are undercooked for an additional 2-3 minutes at 400 degrees F or until they reach a safe temperature to eat.

How to make BAKED garlic parmesan chicken wings
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and on top place an oven safe wire rack. Spray the rack with cooking spray. Set aside.
- Add seasoned chicken wings, skin side up, to the wire rack. Bake wings in the oven for 50-60 minutes, removing them from the oven, spraying with cooking spray, and flipping them every 20 minutes until the internal temperature of the wings reaches 165°F. Choose the thickest part of the wing to get the most accurate reading. Thin drumettes will finish cooking faster than thick drums. After cooking the wings for 60 minutes, if some aren’t baked to the safe temperature, add the uncooked ones back in the oven for 5-7 minutes at a time.
How to make garlic parmesan sauce for wings
The sauce comes together in 5-6 minutes on the stove. Here’s how to make it…
- Make the sauce when there is 15-30 minutes left of cook time on the wings. Add a medium saucepan to the stove and turn the burner to medium heat. Add the olive oil and butter.
- Once the butter melts, add the garlic and saute it for up to 3 minutes, or until it becomes translucent.
- Stir the garlic butter oil and turn the heat down to low. Add in half the parmesan cheese, and all of the Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Stir regularly to combine for about 2 minutes until the cheese melts into the sauce. Transfer sauce to a large bowl.
- Add baked / air fried parmesan garlic chicken wings to the bowl with the sauce. Toss the wings in the sauce to coat evenly.
- Plate wings with a drizzle of leftover garlic sauce from the mixing bowl on top. Serve wings with a side of warmed alfredo dipping sauce, carrots, celery, and a sprinkle of fresh parmesan cheese and parsley.
It might sound a little unconventional to serve wings with pasta, but this pesto pasta would be the perfect match for these Italian style chicken wings.

Yes—in fact, there’s nothing easier. Just follow my recipe as written and add 5 minutes to the cook time. Make sure to check with a thermometer before serving.
Yes, you can either use store bought alfredo sauce or make your own. You can follow my white sauce recipe for a delicious dipping sauce for garlic parmesan wings. They’re good with traditional blue cheese dip, too.
Serve these garlic parmesan chicken wings with grilled potato wedges and butter poached sous vide corn on the cob. Or make a simple tomato pesto pasta salad. Alternatively, you could serve these as an appetizer with homemade pizza.
If you are making these garlic parmesan wings as an appetizer, serving 4-5 per person (about half a pound) is appropriate. If the wings are your main entrée, though, you’ll want five to ten per person, depending on appetites. Six wings are an ‘average sized’ meat portion of 6 oz, when you take out the bones.
If you follow this recipe as written your wings should come out crisp and delicious. If your wings are not crispy, you may have been cooking chicken wings at too low a temperature. Low temperatures will leave the chicken skin oily, dense, and missing that wonderful crisp texture. If you baked the wings, but did not use the baking powder in the ingredients list, then the chicken wings skin may not have dried out enough to become crispy.
