    Detailed recipe steps

You can cook my heart shaped pizza recipe in a cast iron skillet (shop my 12″ cast iron skillet on Amazon) – or on baking sheet trays. Either way, don’t skip my step for par baking pizza dough so it thoroughly cooks.

Heart Pizza Appetizer Board for Valentines Day
    1. Note: You have enough ingredients to make 2 heart shaped pizzas from one ball of dough. So you will cut the dough in half, then do the following to make each heart pizza.
    2. Preheat a 12” cast iron skillet by placing it on the middle rack in the oven and setting the heat to 500 degrees F.  Alternatively, you can use a baking sheet.
Cutting a heart shape into pizza dough
    1. Stretch dough with the help of a little flour (see the SipBiteGo guide to stretching pizza dough if you need help). First, form the shape of a circle about 10-12”. Then cut ⅓ of the way from the outside edge of the circle towards the center. Stretch and work the shape of the dough so the heart shape is smooth and rounded at the top.
Adding pizza in the shape of a heart to a cast iron skillet
    1. Remove the hot skillet from the oven (leave oven on). Drizzle some olive oil on the bottom of the skillet, and brush it around to evenly coat the cast iron pan. Add dough on top. Push the edges carefully around the hot cast iron skillet, to maintain the shape of the heart. Brush ½” crust with a little olive oil from the pan.
Heart Shaped Pizza Dough in cast iron skillet
    1. Par-bake pizza dough (without any toppings) for 3 minutes at 500 degrees F.
Par Baking Heart Shaped Pizza in the oven
    1. Remove partially-cooked dough from the oven and add toppings, leaving room for the crust… First, add a layer of pizza sauce, then shredded cheese and heart shaped pepperoni.
Baking Heart Pizza in the oven
    1. Bake heart pizza for 10-12 minutes, until the cheese is bubbling and the crust is golden brown. You might have to clean it up a little – like move the pepperoni slices where you want them, or use a spatula to push overflowing cheese back to a perfect heart shape… do it while the cheese is hot. Let cool before slicing and serve with fresh basil.

    The Perfect Pizza Setup

Want to make restaurant style pizza at home? I’ve got you covered! Here are some of my top tips, tricks, secret ingredients and tools for a pizza night everyone will look forward to, again and again.

    1. NEVER do this… Contrary to what most people believe, when baking pizza on a sheet pan, never add toppings to raw pizza dough. Instead, follow my recipe for making homemade pizza with ready made dough, which will teach you how to par bake pizza dough first.
    2. Get help from secret ingredients…
      – This dough seasoning is the secret to real Italian-tasting homemade pizza dough.
      – Add pizza seasoning to store bought pizza sauce. This makes the pizza taste really fresh!
    3. Herbs are for after… In my weekly pizza making practice, I’ve found that fresh herbs, like basil, need to be added to pizza after the pizza is done baking (so the herbs don’t wilt).
    4. Buy fresh dough and get amazing results. Yup, fresh dough from grocery stores is one of my favorite short-cuts. Learn how to use fresh Trader Joe’s pizza dough and Whole Foods pizza dough with my tutorials.
    5. Frozen pizza can taste amazing, too!! Learn how to spruce it up with this recipe for pizza using frozen crust.
    6. Slice pizza pies like a chef with just a few swipes, using big ol’ pizza cutters.
    7. Want to grill pizza? Here are some pizza grilling tools to check out.
    8. Do you really need to cook pizza on the rack? Nope! I basically never do. Here are tools you see me using in my tutorials on cooking pizza in the oven…
      – Bake pizza on a rimmed baking pan set to get a beautiful golden brown crust.
      – Love crispy crust? Let the air flow with this dishwasher safe pizza pan.
      – Get personal – let your fam / friends top their own pies with this set of personal pizza pans.
