    • You can be creative! Don’t have all the ingredients or toppings for this recipe on hand? No problem, you can use or substitute a wide variety of toppings like fig jam, fresh arugula or fresh mozzarella.

How to make fig and prosciutto pizza

Now I’ll walk you through it…

Infographic demonstrating recipe steps for baking fig and prosciutto pizza in the oven on a baking sheet or pizza stone with captions and Jenna Passaro from Sip Bite Go

Quick look at Fig and Prosciutto Pizza recipe

    1. Preheat the oven and prepare the caramelized onions and fig pizza toppings.
    2. Stretch pizza dough and parbake dough with garlic sauce on it for 7 minutes at 450 degrees F.
    3. Add fig and caramelized onion toppings to the parbaked pizza and finish baking for 10-12 minutes until crisp on the bottom.
    4. Remove the fig pizza from the oven and top with prosciutto and balsamic glaze. Enjoy!

    Detailed recipe steps

    1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F, with a baking stone inside of it, or to the temperature recommended by your pizza stone. Alternatively, add a baking sheet pan to the oven to make a more organic shape pizza or rectangle pizza.
    2. Caramelize onions for fig prosciutto pizza. To a medium or large skillet on the stove, add onions, garlic, and olive oil. Heat on medium-high for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally (about every 1-2 minutes). Either turn off heat, or keep caramelizing them, on medium-low for about 5 minutes more, stirring occasionally, until they reach your desired level of caramelization. Remove from heat once done cooking.
    3. Set aside part of the caramelized onions for topping the pizza. Transfer ¾ of the cooked onions to a bowl and set aside. Leave the other ¼ onions in the pan with remaining oil.
    4. Make garlic butter sauce. Add butter to the skillet that still has the remaining onions (and garlic, obviously!). Melt on low / medium then turn off heat and remove pan from the hot burner to cool.
    5. Stretch dough. See Sip Bite Go pizza dough stretching guide for tips if you’re new to making pizza at home. I recommend letting the dough come to room temperature and I use a little flour to help stretch the dough.
    6. Prep the pizza base. Add a little olive oil (brush it all over the surface) to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. (If using a baking sheet, line it with parchment paper first.) Add pizza dough on top. (don’t try to force a shape to help prevent holes in the dough).
    7. Add the white sauce. Then get the garlic butter pizza sauce from the stove and brush the melted butter on the perimeter of the pizza crust. This will help it turn golden brown. Drizzle every last drop of the rest of the garlic butter sauce with caramelized onions (the part you’ve been saving in the pan) to the pizza base. Brush all over to cover the pizza dough.
    8. Baking part 1 (just the base). Bake fig prosciutto pizza in the oven for 7 minutes in the oven to parbake the pizza dough with the buttery garlic sauce. Remove from the oven and keep the oven on (with the door closed).
    9. Optional flavor booster step. To the parbaked pizza, add dollops of pesto and spread them out to form thin layers. (Personally, I don’t feel you have to completely cover the base. I think it’s more exciting to bite into pesto here and there as you’re eating the pizza.) Add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes, if desired.
    10. Add toppings. Add cheeses, the rest of the sauteed onions from the beginning step, then little pinches of prosciutto, and a sprinkle of figs. Get artistic with it!
    11. Baking part 2. Bake pizza with toppings until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown. This will take anywhere from 7 to 10 to 12 minutes depending on your oven and the pizza stone or sheet pan you’re using to cook pizza.
    12. Remove fig and prosciutto pizza from the oven. Add a drizzle of balsamic glaze and fresh basil. Slice and serve when cool enough to enjoy.

    FAQs

How long does it take to bake fig and prosciutto pizza in the oven?

It will take you about 20 minutes in total to bake this pizza in a 450 degree F oven using a pizza stone. Times to finish will adjust based on the hot spots in your oven.

What topping can I substitute or add to prosciutto and fig pizza?

In this recipe, I used dry figs. If you have access to fresh figs, then definitely use them! Also, if you don’t have a balsamic glaze on hand, you can easily make one by reducing balsamic vinegar on the stove in a saucepan. Just let the balsamic vinegar simmer until thickened.

Another great topping to add to this pizza is fresh arugula. Feel free to sub the cheeses too. You can add in fresh mozzarella (or burrata like on this peach salad recipe) instead of the goat cheese.

    The Perfect Pizza Setup

Want to make restaurant style pizza at home? I’ve got you covered! Here are some of my top tips, tricks, secret ingredients and tools for a pizza night everyone will look forward to, again and again.

    1. NEVER do this… Contrary to what most people believe, when baking pizza on a sheet pan, never add toppings to raw pizza dough. Instead, follow my recipe for making homemade pizza with ready made dough, which will teach you how to par bake pizza dough first.
    2. Get help from secret ingredients…
      – This dough seasoning is the secret to real Italian-tasting homemade pizza dough.
      – Add pizza seasoning to store bought pizza sauce. This makes the pizza taste really fresh!
    3. Herbs are for after… In my weekly pizza making practice, I’ve found that fresh herbs, like basil, need to be added to pizza after the pizza is done baking (so the herbs don’t wilt).
    4. Buy fresh dough and get amazing results. Yup, fresh dough from grocery stores is one of my favorite short-cuts. Learn how to use fresh Trader Joe’s pizza dough and Whole Foods pizza dough with my tutorials.
    5. Frozen pizza can taste amazing, too!! Learn how to spruce it up with this recipe for pizza using frozen crust.
    6. Slice pizza pies like a chef with just a few swipes, using big ol’ pizza cutters.
    7. Want to grill pizza? Here are some pizza grilling tools to check out.
    8. Do you really need to cook pizza on the rack? Nope! I basically never do. Here are tools you see me using in my tutorials on cooking pizza in the oven…
      – Bake pizza on a rimmed baking pan set to get a beautiful golden brown crust.
      – Love crispy crust? Let the air flow with this dishwasher safe pizza pan.
      – Get personal – let your fam / friends top their own pies with this set of personal pizza pans.

    Hey, I’m Jenna Passaro.

I develop easy recipes that can transform your kitchen into a restaurant – and you into a true home chef.

    Where to start?

Learn the secrets to smoking tasty Traeger recipes and making pizza at home. And cook amazing tri tip steak dinners.

Or, fall in love with something new to cook with your air fryer, pellet smoker, BBQ grill, sous vide cooker, and more…

You’ll notice, I kind of geek out over new cooking trends and tools!

    Instagram me @sipbitego & chef hubs @handmodelpatrick

My story. Growing up, I didn’t learn to cook.

(I was actually banned from cooking for years)

And then in my 20’s I didn’t have to cook because my job as an event planner involved a lot of travel and it was easier to eat out. At the time, I was 100% positive that restaurant food would always taste better than cooking at home, and there was nothing I could do about it.

Until I fell in love with a chef. He would come over and cook me delicious meals right in my own kitchen. My mind was blown.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to figure out easy ways to make restaurant style food at home and share it here on Sip Bite Go.

Love to eat out and travel? I can totally relate. See my guide on where to eat in Portland, OR.

Never in a million years did I imagine I’d ditch the 9-5 lifestyle in my late 20’s, move across the country on a whim, start a new life, start a food blog, and write a book.

    But here I am!
