Type of food
Princesa Gastobar state that they are the “only restaurant that has integrated in the menu recipes of 6 different Puerto Rican cookbooks published between 1859-1950.
The cuisine is hearty and rustic – which I love – and inspired by authentic 1800’s Century Gastronomy.
And they have a huge selection of rum!

Dinner menu favorites
Bembé cocktail
Ingredients: Don Q Passion, Aperol, Sprite Zero, Passion Fruit Pulp, Sparkling Wine
Smokey Palomita
Someone in my group tried this drink, and loved it – it’s similar to a margarita but made with good quality Mezcal, fresh lime and grapefruit juice.
Yautia fritters / Croquettes
You’ll see these yummy tapas in a few photos on this page.
The croquettes are nice and lightly crisp on the outside, while being perfectly creamy inside.
In the background of those photos you’ll also see the bean salad appetizer my table loved.
Mollete criollo
This pork sandwich appetizer was new to me, and I loved it!
The sandwich is stuffed inside soft but lightly toasted buns… known as “bread casseroles”.
And the pork and cheese inside melts when you eat it.
So good!
Ribeye 16 oz. with Roasted Sweet Potatoes
Well as someone who cooks really delicious grilled ribeye and smoked ribeye and griddled ribeye, and well… all types of ribeye, I am pretty picky about it!
This steak from Princesa Gastrobar was one of my favorite meals on the island during this particular trip.

Location
Princesa – Cocina Cultura, aka Princesa Gastrobar is located near the ocean, close to the cruise terminal and fishing pier 3.
It’s also near Paseo de La Princesa, an outdoor shopping market that’s a tourist attraction near our favorite Old San Juan playground.
Ambiance of Princesa Gastobar
During lunch I found it to be quiet…
But the food was outstanding, and there could have been a smaller crowd due to the rain in San Juan that afternoon…
Inside there are trees and a stage where you can watch live music while dancing.
