History
In the heart of the water and castle lines area of San Juan, you’ll find Plaza del Quinto Centenario.
It was built in 1992 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival.
What’s in Plaza del Quinto Centenario
This is a great area to walk on the cobblestone streets by foot.
El Tótem Telúrico
One reason it’s called “Plaza del Tótem” is because of 40 feet tall tower that’s known as El Tótem Telúrico.
It’s a major focal point of this San Juan plaza.
Nearby La Perla neighborhood
From across the street of this plaza, you can view La Perla – a historical neighborhood by the wall of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
It’s situated on the east of the Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery (photo above).
