Crispy baked chicken wings are ready to oven bake in just 5 minutes! They are made healthier in the oven with a simple dry rub spice blend. Finish them with my sweet and hot homemade wing sauce. So yum!
Prepare oven and cooking equipment for chicken wings recipe. Preheat oven to 425°F. Pat chicken wings dry with paper towels. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and add an oven safe wire rack on top. Spray rack with cooking spray. Set aside.
Make the chicken wings spice rub. In a bowl, mix together the spice rub (salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper). Add baking powder and stir to combine.
Season wings with dry rub. Evenly coat the wings with the dry rub mixture. In the cooking demonstration on Sip Bite Go, you’ll see I added the spice blend in batches so the wings were thoroughly seasoned.
Bake wings. Add wings (skin side up) to the cooking spray coated baking rack (on top of the foil lined baking sheet). Bake chicken wings in the oven 3 times, in 20 minute batches at 425°F. In between batches, remove wings from the oven, spray them with cooking spray, then flip them with tongs and put them back in the oven to continue cooking. During the final 50-60 minutes of baking time, check the temperature of the wings (choose the thickest wing to get the most accurate reading). Wings are done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F and they are golden brown. If they aren’t done cooking, add them back in the oven for 5-7 minutes at a time.
Make the homemade sweet and hot wing sauce. In a large bowl, whisk together the buffalo hot sauce, honey, water, and cilantro.
Coat oven baked wings with hot sauce. Add cooked chicken wings to the large bowl of wing sauce. Use a spatula or tongs to completely coat the wings with hot sauce.
Enjoy your crispy wings. Serve hot wings with extra sauce drizzled on top and a dipping sauce on the side. Garnish with a sprinkle of carrots, green onion, and cilantro. Eat them within 20- 30 minutes to enjoy them hot.

Notes
To make oven baked wings crispy, pat wings dry with paper towels before seasoning.
Cooking wings from frozen? Add an additional round of flipping and cooking (plan for about 15-20 more minutes baking in the oven) until they are cooked to 165°F. Then broil on high if needed for 3-5 minutes.
Do you need vegetable oil? Not for this recipe for healthier baked chicken wings. The secret is in the baking powder which means less saturated fat and calories than deep frying.
Can you air fry wings? Yes, if air frying, set the temperature to 400°F. Flip them every 5 minutes for about 25-30 minutes until they reach 165°F.
Blue cheese dressing is a great dip to serve with wings. For a homemade dipping sauce, try this jalapeno ranch.
