Set out a grill pan, cast iron skillet, or frying pan on the stove to preheat. If working with a long grill pan, stick pan over two burners. Turn on all burners under the pan you’re using to medium or medium-high heat.
You can either brush the olive oil directly on the pan, then add toasts, or brush bread with olive oil on both sides. For the latter, mix together garlic powder and salt. Sprinkle salt and garlic powder on bread to season it.
Add bread slices to the pan once it’s hot. Every 1-2 minutes, use tongs to flip toasts to the other side of the bread as they turn golden brown and grill marks form. If some are turning brown faster than others, move them to the outside of the pan where they’ll get less heat. Continue flipping as desired, exact minutes per side will vary.
Remove toasted bread from grill pan as they turn brown to your liking.
