Looking for the best garlic parmesan chicken wings recipe? Today you’ll learn how to make a healthier version of your favorite restaurant style wings from scratch. Learn how to make the dry rub, garlic sauce, and how to bake or air fry them…
Use a paper towel to pat chicken wings dry. In a small bowl, mix together garlic powder, salt, and baking powder (only use baking powder for baked garlic parmesan chicken wings). Sprinkle dry rub on wings so they’re completely coated with seasonings.
How to make AIR FRYER garlic parmesan chicken wings
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 5 minutes. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and add wings to the basket with the skin side up so they are not touching, or just barely touching. You may have to stand some wings up on the side or bake them in batches.
Air fry chicken wings for 25 minutes, flipping them (shaking the basket isn’t enough to thoroughly cook them) about halfway through at the 15 minute mark.
Then increase the air fryer cooking temperature to 400°F, flip the chicken wings, and cook them for an additional 8-10 minutes until the thickest part of the thickest wing reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Test multiple wings to make sure they are done. Air fry wings that are undercooked for an additional 2-3 minutes at 400 degrees F or until they reach a safe temperature to eat.
How to make BAKED garlic parmesan chicken wings
Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and on top place an oven safe wire rack. Spray the rack with cooking spray. Set aside.
Add seasoned chicken wings, skin side up, to the wire rack in a single layer. Bake wings in the oven for 50-60 minutes, removing them from the oven, spraying with cooking spray, and flipping them every 20 minutes until the internal temperature of the wings reaches 165°F. Choose the thickest part of the wing to get the most accurate reading. Thin drumettes will finish cooking faster than thick drums. If they aren’t done cooking at the same time, add them back in the oven for 5-7 minutes at a time.
How to make garlic parmesan sauce for wings
Make the sauce when there is 15-30 minutes left of cook time on the wings. Add a medium saucepan to the stove and turn the burner to medium heat. Add the olive oil and butter.
Once the butter melts, add the garlic and saute it for up to 3 minutes, or until it becomes translucent.
Stir the garlic butter oil and turn the heat down to low. Add in half the parmesan cheese, and all of the Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Stir regularly to combine for about 2 minutes until the cheese melts into the sauce. Transfer sauce to a large mixing bowl.
Add baked / air fried parmesan garlic chicken wings to the bowl with the sauce. Toss wings in the sauce to coat evenly.
Plate wings with a drizzle of leftover garlic sauce from the mixing bowl on top. Serve wings with a side of warmed alfredo dipping sauce, carrots, celery, and a sprinkle of fresh parmesan cheese and parsley.
