Before I dive into the weekend trips to take during Fall in Oregon, let’s talk one of my favorite subjects: snacks and road trip bags! I’m a big advocate of bringing a little cooler packed with goodies on my road trips. Especially in Oregon, where drinks and food can be sparse as you travel through rural areas around the state.
Here’s what I pack for trips during Fall in Oregon…
- Hydration! Sparkling water and other snacks.
- Snacks – bananas, nuts, pretzels, raisins
- Extra warmth – a blanket, scarf, etc.
- Rain jacket
- Hiking boots or sneakers
- Camera
Foodie activities during Fall in Oregon
There are tons of Halloween attractions around Portland, Oregon. Pumpkin picking is abundant on Sauvie Island and in Hillsboro. Apple and Pear picking is throughout the state, but especially amazing along the Hood River Fruit Loop. While there, visit the Mt Hood Scenic Loop to explore antique shops, vineyards and local stores packed with fudge, jams and honey.
Wine lovers should check out wine dinners and Fall wine events in Dundee, Newberg and Canby.
Fall foliage in Oregon
Check out Eugene, Willamette Valley and Salem to experience the beautiful change in Oregon Fall foliage.
Visit the Oregon Coast in the Fall
The Fall may be the best time to visit Oregon Coast destinations. Also known as “The People’s Coast”, this 300+ mile stretch of gorgeous, moody scenery has plenty of cozy lodges and bed and breakfasts to enjoy. I love booking a romantic room along the coast in Yachats or Cannon Beach.
Many hotels have fireplaces and hot tubs to stay warm while taking in the choppy ocean outside. When the weather is clear, I take my camera out to snap photos of sea lions and sea birds. And, there are ton of breweries to enjoy. In the Summer, the breweries are usually packed. But in the non-peak seasons, it’s easier to get a table right away. I love Yachats Brewery and Pelican Brewery.
If it’s a rainy day in the city, roam Powell’s Books in Portland.
