Want to make steak last longer in the freezer? Today I’m demonstrating how to vacuum seal ribeye for sous vide cooking. Once you master food prep with the vacuum sealer, you can buy ribeye in bulk and eat steakhouse dinners at home – any night of the week.
Your future self will thank you for freezing ribeye…
So let’s whip out those Foodsaver bags and go vacuum seal steak!

How to vacuum seal ribeye from frozen
This demonstration is with frozen ribeye, but you can vacuum seal fresh ribeye the same way.
Step 1. Remove ribeye from freezer packaging to vacuum seal it. You don’t want to vacuum seal ribeye in store-bought packaging.
More details on the safety behind repackaging ribeye before vacuum sealing and sous vide cooking can be found in this post about vacuum sealing meat.
Step 2. Transfer ribeye to a plate or cutting board.
Step 3. Now is the chance to season steak before vacuum sealing it.
To keep it simple, I just added a little salt to the steak.

This is a chance to add any herbs or spices you’d like to the vacuum seal bag before freezing it. Often, I’ll pick some herbs from my indoor herb garden or pop some rosemary in the bag.
Step 4. Add ribeye to a vacuum sealer bag.
Here I’m using a Foodsaver vacuum seal bag – it came with my machine, which was a gift from Foodsaver to use in my demonstration video for Foodsaver v4400.
The vacuum seal bag should be a little bigger than the ribeye steak.
There should be 3-4 inches of extra room at the opening so the vacuum-sealed ribeye won’t be squished by the machine when it vacuum seals the food.
Step 5. Vacuum seal ribeye with Foodsaver bag (or whichever vacuum seal bag brand you’re using). This model automatically senses the vacuum seal bag and begins working. It’s pretty straightforward to use.
Step 6. Freeze ribeye steaks for up to 3 years.
But seriously, if you’re going to wait that long, you’re crazy.
As busy new parents, vacuum seal tricks like this one have become a way of life.
