Wondering what to do with butternut squash ravioli? This dish is a must-try recipe for Trader Joe’s pasta fans.

In this guide, you’ll learn to saute the zucchini and how to make a simple butter sauce to bring the whole dish together.

Ingredients for this butternut squash pasta dish

A few tasty ingredients are all you need for this complete dish using butternut squash raviolis. To make it, I used one package of Trader Joe’s raviolis and made it with a simple butter sauce with zucchini, shallots, and garlic.

How to make a meal with butternut squash raviolis and zucchini

Let’s whip up a tasty Trader Joe’s dinner recipe with butternut squash raviolis.

Once you learn how to make it, their refrigerated pasta will always be on your Trader Joe’s must haves list.

Step 1. Prepare for the recipe. Decide if you want to cook the pasta and zucchini at the same time, or one after the other.

See the recipe notes for how to make this recipe faster by cooking them at the same time.

Step 2. Boil butternut squash ravioli. Heat a large pot of water on the stove to high heat. Add ½ tsp salt and bring the water to a boil. Add Trader Joe’s Butternut Squash Ravioli pasta to the boiling water and cook on the stove as directed on the package to al dente.

See the notes below for specifics on Trader Joe’s Butternut Squash ravioli cooking instructions. My recommendation is to cook ravs 3 minutes fresh / 4 minutes when cooking ravioli from frozen.

Step 3. Drain butternut squash raviolis. Add a little olive oil to the pasta if you haven’t started pan frying the zucchini, so the pasta doesn’t stick later.

Step 4. Pan fry the zucchini and shallots. Set a medium or large size pan on the stove to medium-high heat.

Add 2 tsp of olive oil, zucchini, and shallots. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until zucchini softens and starts to brown.

When the vegetables begin sticking to the pan, add 1 tbsp of salted butter and garlic, and stir regularly for 1 minute, until the butter melts.

Turn the heat of the burner down to low if you’re ready to add the boiled pasta now, or turn off the burner completely if the pasta isn’t done yet.

Step 5. Make the butter sauce. When the pasta is drained, add 1 tsp olive oil and 2 tbsp butter to the pan with the fried zucchini and shallots.

Top shot of pan with cooked butternut squash pasta.

Turn the heat to medium-low and cook together until the butter has melted, stirring constantly for about 30 seconds.

Then add the ravioli and stir. It will only take about 1 minute for the ravioli, zucchini, and butter sauce to mingle.

Turn off the heat once butter is melted and add fresh chopped parsley and fresh parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.

Trader Joe’s butternut squash ravioli cooking instructions

    On the package, it reads:

    Cooking Instructions For Stove Top

Bring 4 Quarts of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta, bring back to a gentle boil. Continue to cook for 3 minutes or to desired tenderness. Drain and toss with butter, olive oil or your favorite sauce and serve.

How long to cook Trader Joe’s ravioli from frozen?

I personally add on one minute to the cook time for all of the raviolis sold at TJ’s, when cooking from frozen. The lobster ravioli and cauliflower raviolis are delicious, and can be cooked from frozen, too.

My Trader Joe’s Butternut Squash Ravioli review?

I love it! Seriously, I can’t get enough of it. While I love making a lot of dishes from scratch, my husband and I are no longer up at 2am making pasta on weekend nights. So I love being able to pop a few of the Trader Joe’s ravioli varieties in my freezer and cook raviolis from frozen when I’m in a pinch for dinner.

Even my toddler is happy with it! While I love the butternut squash ravioli from Trader Joe’s – you can get it pretty much in any grocery store, in the refrigerated section.

I’m a huge fan of Trader Joe’s pizza dough options, too.

    • Each package of pasta is 8.8 oz.

More sauces for butternut squash ravioli

This pasta tastes great with other sauces, too.

Some nights I’ll use store bought alfredo sauce on pasta, or if I have a half hour, I’ll make a tomato sauce from canned tomatoes.

What vegetables go with butternut squash ravioli

Wondering, “what do I serve with butternut squash ravioli”? While zucchini and butternut squash ravioli were used in this dish, you can get creative with your own add-ins including:

    • Red wine caramelized onions
    • Sauteed mushrooms
    • Roasted cherry tomatoes
    • Diced sous vide asparagus

    Notes

    • Try making the zucchini and raviolis at the same time. When you get the hang of this recipe, it’s easy to cook the zucchini and butternut squash raviolis at the same time on two different burners. This will cut the cook time of the recipe down. What you’ll see demonstrated in the recipe video is that I started pan frying the zucchini when the water for the pasta was boiling.
    • Instructions for cooking butternut squash raviolis from TJ’s. The cooking instructions on the package of Trader Joe’s Butternut Squash Ravioli indicate a cooking time of 3 minutes from fresh. I usually use a cook time of 4 minutes when cooking from frozen. You’ll know they’re done when they’re floating and puffed up.

    Hey, I’m Jenna Passaro.

I develop easy recipes that can transform your kitchen into a restaurant – and you into a true home chef.

    Where to start?

Learn the secrets to smoking tasty Traeger recipes and making pizza at home. And cook amazing tri tip steak dinners.

Or, fall in love with something new to cook with your air fryer, pellet smoker, BBQ grill, sous vide cooker, and more…

You’ll notice, I kind of geek out over new cooking trends and tools!

My story. Growing up, I didn’t learn to cook.

(I was actually banned from cooking for years)

And then in my 20’s I didn’t have to cook because my job as an event planner involved a lot of travel and it was easier to eat out. At the time, I was 100% positive that restaurant food would always taste better than cooking at home, and there was nothing I could do about it.

Until I fell in love with a chef. He would come over and cook me delicious meals right in my own kitchen. My mind was blown.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to figure out easy ways to make restaurant style food at home and share it here on Sip Bite Go.

Love to eat out and travel? I can totally relate. See my guide on where to eat in Portland, OR.
