How to taste salad dressing to know if it’s good
Some of “knowing when a salad dressing tastes good” is simply up to personal preference. Taste the dressing to see how you like it by dipping a fork in the jar to pick up just a little bit, or by dipping a carrot or cucumber into the dressing.
If the dressing tastes a little “flat” and you only taste the olive oil, add a pinch of salt and drizzle a little more vinegar in it.
If the dressing is a bit too sour and vinegar-tasting, add a drizzle of olive oil in it, shake it up again, and have a taste.
FAQs for making homemade salad dressings
Yes, you can. I don’t find a blender or food processor necessary for this recipe (I love bites of fresh basil), but you could pulse this salad vinaigrette for 5-10 seconds to make a smooth dressing.
Yes – I highly recommend making this salad dressing recipe with fresh lemon juice. Substituting another fresh citrus like lime juice or the juice of a fresh orange would be my preference over using store bought lemon juice.

Meat thermometer recommendations
Every home chef needs a reliable meat thermometer to cook food perfectly.
On Sip Bite Go, you’ll often see me using:
- Meater thermometer – a fancy wireless thermometer that connects to a phone app – gifted to me from a Traeger partnership.
- ThermoPro digital thermometer – which has a wire that connects the thermometer to a display box outside the oven/grill.
It’s like being psychic! The great thing about either of the thermometers above is that I don’t have to take the food out of the oven to know the temperature.
How to use ‘em… What I do is stick the digital thermometer in steak, pork, chicken, whatever… Then put the food in the oven, on the smoker, or grill.
While the meat cooks, it reads the temperature so I know exactly what temp meat is as it’s cooking. Without having to take it out and check. It’s really difficult to overcook food when you know exactly what temp it is inside!
