Make an easy labneh dip recipe with garlic and dill. Buy labneh from the store to make this yogurt dip inspired by Greek, Turkish, Lebanese and Middle Eastern food. Let’s make this easy appetizer…

Why this labneh recipe is so great
- Labneh dip is pretty healthy, and it’s completely satisfying.
- SO FAST – It’s just a 10 minute recipe.
- It’s fancy enough to serve for a party appetizer or dinner hors d oeuvres for guests.
- Make it as a healthy snack.
So, what is labneh?
It’s considered a yogurt cheese, because it’s the best of both worlds.
How do you make homemade labneh?
You can make labneh at home with cow’s milk or goat’s milk. It’s a simple process that involves adding some salt and draining and shaping the yogurt with cheesecloth.
Where to buy labneh?
As a shortcut, like in this appetizer labneh recipe, I buy store bought labneh from the yogurt section of local grocery stores near me.
Is Greek yogurt and labneh the same?
Labneh is thicker than yogurt — in fact, it’s more the consistency of cream cheese! The flavor is similar to Greek yogurt, which is a decent labneh substitute, but it’s a bit more tangy. But if you’ve confused the two, don’t feel bad– in fact, labneh is made from strained cow’s milk yogurt.
Ingredients
- Olive oil
- Fresh minced garlic
- Labneh yogurt (aka labne, or substitute Greek yogurt)
- Salt
- Fresh dill
- Pita bread for serving
How to make labneh dip
Let’s put together this easy pita bread and dip recipe.
- Heat a small skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil and garlic. Cook, stirring regularly, until garlic becomes fragrant and translucent, about 1-2 minutes into cooking.
- Remove garlic oil from heat, let it cool down for a few minutes, then transfer to a medium or large mixing bowl.
- Add labneh yogurt to the garlic oil in the mixing bowl. Add salt, and fresh chopped dill. Use a spatula to fold everything together, until combined.
- Transfer to a serving bowl, and Serve immediately with a drizzle of olive oil and toasted pita bread, or chill labneh dip (without the olive oil), covered for up to 1 day, until it’s time to serve with pita bread. (note: olive oil drizzled on top should be added at the time of serving).
Ways to season labneh with toppings
- Sprinkle with dried Zaatar (yum – labneh and zaatar are a delicious flavor match)
- Add caramelized onions.
- Top with fresh chopped mint or parsley.
- Mix in a little harissa to the yogurt to spice it up.
- Crush pistachios and sprinkle them on top.
Complete meal idea: this labneh recipe served with a Mediterranean ground beef platter.
FAQs
If needed, you can use Greek yogurt in this recipe instead of labneh.
Labneh is high in protein and high in calcium, making it one of the healthiest dip choices out there. It’s also low in lactose and high in probiotics, and contains significant amounts of essential vitamins and minerals.
For a simple appetizer, I like to serve this labneh dip recipe with warmed pita bread or grilled toasts and veggies on a platter. If I’m turning it into dinner, I’ll serve a bowl of labneh with salad greens and grilled skirt steak, or a side of air fryer broccoli and pan seared chicken breast.

Meat thermometer recommendations
Every home chef needs a reliable meat thermometer to cook food perfectly.
On Sip Bite Go, you’ll often see me using:
- Meater thermometer – a fancy wireless thermometer that connects to a phone app – gifted to me from a Traeger partnership.
- ThermoPro digital thermometer – which has a wire that connects the thermometer to a display box outside the oven/grill.
It’s like being psychic! The great thing about either of the thermometers above is that I don’t have to take the food out of the oven to know the temperature.
How to use ‘em… What I do is stick the digital thermometer in steak, pork, chicken, whatever… Then put the food in the oven, on the smoker, or grill.
While the meat cooks, it reads the temperature so I know exactly what temp meat is as it’s cooking. Without having to take it out and check. It’s really difficult to overcook food when you know exactly what temp it is inside!
