In this guide, you’ll learn the step-by-step process of creating a perfect bacon weave…

    What is a bacon weave?

This simple yet impressive technique of weaving pieces of bacon together like a basket adds a deliciously crispy layer to your favorite grilled and smoked dishes.

A bacon weave is a great way to create a sturdy, flavorful layer for dishes like a smoked breakfast fatty.

    What you need

Bacon – For a square bacon weave, you need about 6-7 slices of bacon horizontally and vertically, so you need about 14 pieces of bacon.

Parchment paper – For your work surface, a layer of parchment paper beneath the bacon weave will make it easier to move the bacon.

    1. Prep Workspace

Lay a large sheet of parchment paper on a flat surface. This will make it easier to assemble, roll, and move the bacon weave.

    2. Lay Vertical Bacon

Work with cold bacon. Place 7 slices of bacon vertically on the parchment paper, side by side, with the edges touching but not overlapping.

    3. Weave Horizontal Layer of Bacon

    • I like to start in the middle and work towards the edges to keep a perfect square shape. Fold every other slice of bacon back halfway.
    • Place a slice of bacon horizontally across the unfolded vertical slices at the edge where the folds begin.
    • Unfold the folded slices back over the horizontal slice.

    4. Finish Weaving

    Completed Bacon Weave
    • Fold back the vertical slices that were not folded the first time.
    • Place another horizontal slice next to the first one.
    • Unfold the folded slices back over the new horizontal slice.
    • Continue this process, alternating which vertical slices you fold back, until completely woven.
    • Adjust as needed no gaps for food to escape while cooking.

    5. Ready to BBQ

Your bacon weave is now ready to use as a flavorful, sturdy layer for your food. Use the parchment paper to help roll it up or transfer it to your cooking surface.
