Ingredients
- 1 large yellow onion
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp garlic salt
- ¼ tsp pepper, freshly ground
- 1 tbsp butter
How to fry onions on a griddle
- Prep the onion. Remove the ends and peel off the onion paper. Slice onion into ½” circles or cut it in half and then slice it into half-moons. Separate the onions into individual pieces.
- Preheat a section of your griddle to medium heat. Once hot, add oil and onion in a flat layer. Sprinkle onion with garlic salt and pepper.
- Flip onions around regularly, and about 5 minutes in, add butter. This will prevent them from burning and add flavor and tenderness. Continue to saute onions for 5-10 minutes more, flipping regularly. If cooking a burger, steak, or any other food at the same time, consider dropping the heat down to medium-low so the onion fries in the background and doesn’t burn. Remove from the flat top when the onion is fried to your liking. Enjoy!
