You need to clean the Traeger Flatrock griddle after each cook. There’s a specific method and I’ve developed a few extra tips from my experience of griddle cooking on this Flat Top, which I’ll share with you today…

When to clean your griddle
Clean your Flatrock after each use, just like you would a cast iron skillet. This will keep your flat top grill in good shape, and to prevent pests from being attracted to your outdoor cooking area.
Ideally, you will clean the Flatrock Griddle while it’s still hot (the heat makes it easier to clean). Otherwise, you’ll need to redheat the grill to clean it.

Cleaning tools
I recommend keeping a cleaning basket handy, with all these tools ready to go at a moments notice…
- Grill Scraper and Squirt Bottles (see this accessory kit)
- Tongs
- Paper towels
- Trash bag
- Grill conditioner or canola oil / grapeseed oil / flax oil

How to clean Flatrock griddle
- Start with a hot grill on medium heat.
- Use the grill scraper tool to push any stuck-on food particles into the grease chute. Carefully add water with a squirt bottle to any pieces of food that don’t come up easily. Let them steam, then scrape again. (I usually add water across the entire Flatrock and scrape it a final time before moving on to the next step).
- Once water evaporates, add flat top conditioner or oil carefully to the cook surface using a paper towel, held with tongs. Evenly coat the cooktop all over, including the sides which are also cast iron. Leave the Flatrock uncovered for ~10 minutes, it will smoke a bit.
- Turn off griddle heat, close the propane tank. Add one last thin layer of oil. Remove the grease trap and replace it with a clean one for the next cook.
- Once the griddle is completely cool, close the lid and cover the grill.
