WHY YOU’LL LOVE MY FROZEN WATERMELON LEMONADE COCKTAIL

I threw this together after daydreaming about sipping cocktails at a beach resort in St Maarten—without the plane ticket or room service tab. Luckily, this frozen tequila slushy hits just right on a sunny patio at home.

Inspired by leftover watermelon from a BBQ and my love for tart lemonade, this drink became a go-to for weekend hangouts.

    You’ll love it because:
✔️ It’s made in minutes in a blender
✔️ Sweet-tart flavor with just the right boozy kick
✔️ Similar to a margarita, a total party in a glass

    INGREDIENTS

    • 6 cups frozen diced watermelon
    • 3 tablespoons sugar
    • 3 tablespoons hot water
    • ½ cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice
    • ¾ cup tequila
    • ¼ cup triple sec
    • 1 to 1½ cups ice
    • Kosher or margarita salt (for rimming glasses)
    • Lemon slices, watermelon wedges, or strawberries (for garnish)

Also try this delicious watermelon appetizer salad.

    POPULAR SUBSTITUTIONS & ADDITIONS

    • Tequila: Use vodka, rum, or skip the alcohol for a mocktail version.
    • Triple sec: Swap with Grand Marnier.
    • Sugar: Try honey or agave.
    • Lemon juice: Use fresh lime juice for a margarita-style twist.
    • Salt rim: Use Tajín for a spicy kick.
    • Garnishes: Add mint or strawberries.

If you’re in the market for a new blender, I’ve been loving my KitchenAid Speed Ice Crushing Blender which I also use in my watermelon cucumber gin cocktail.

HOW TO MAKE A FROZEN WATERMELON LEMONADE COCKTAIL

Step 1 – Rim the glasses: Rub a lemon wedge around the rim of each glass and dip into kosher or margarita salt. Set aside.
Step 2 – Make simple syrup: Stir sugar into hot water until dissolved.
Step 3 – Blend: Add frozen watermelon, lemon juice, tequila, triple sec, and the simple syrup to a blender. Blend on low to medium speed until smooth (about 20 seconds).
Step 4 – Add ice: Blend in the ice until thick and slushy.

Step 5 – Serve: Pour into salt-rimmed glasses, garnish with lemon, watermelon, or strawberries, and enjoy frozen!

    De-licious!

TIPS FOR MAKING THIS BOOZY SLUSHY

    • Don’t skip freezing the watermelon. Freeze it at least a few hours ahead.
    • Blend just until smooth so it stays thick and icy, not watery.
    • Taste test. Every watermelon is different—add more lemon or sweetener to balance it out before serving.

Here’s a viral recipe you have to try: Boursin cheese and Pringles flower appetizer.
