How to make my chicken taco pizza recipe

The gist of it is that you stretch pizza dough. Then add the dough, sauce, taco seasonings, cheese and cooked chicken breast to a hot pizza stone (or pizza pan or sheet tray). Bake it for about 15 minutes.

Top with veggies, sauce and crushed tortilla chips. Slice and enjoy!

See my guide to making crispy stone crust pizza…

    1. Preheat the oven to 475°F. If you’re using a pizza stone, add it to the center rack. If you’re using a sheet tray, see the notes at the bottom of this recipe for instructions (if so – you need to par bake the dough).
    2. Prep pizza dough station. Dust a large cutting board with half the flour. Add the other half of the flour to the corner of the cutting board to use as you stretch the dough.
    3. Stretch pizza dough. Add the raw dough to the floured surface. See the recipe card for complete step by step guide to stretching dough. Or see my online guide to stretching pizza dough.
    4. Carefully take the hot pizza stone out of the oven once it has preheated, and quickly brush half of the olive oil on the top of the pizza stone. Add the raw stretched pizza dough on top, and brush the rest of the olive oil along the outside 1” of the pizza crust (to give it a golden brown crust once baked).
    5. Work quickly to assemble chicken taco pizza toppings so the pizza stone stays hot. Add pizza sauce to the dough and spread it around, leaving 1” on the outside without sauce for the pizza crust. Sprinkle with taco seasonings. Top with Mexican cheese blend and cooked chicken breast.
    6. Bake chicken taco pizza on pizza stone for 10-15 minutes at 475°F, until Mexican cheese is melted and starts to bubble on top. You may need to rotate it in the oven and cook for an extra few minutes so the bottom crust and edges all turn golden brown.
    7. Remove taco pizza from the oven and let it rest a couple minutes. Top it with a sprinkle of lettuce, tomatoes, crushed tortilla chips, cilantro, and your favorite sauces. Slice and serve when cool enough to eat.

    FAQs

What type of pizza stone do you use?

If you don’t have a pizza stone, I highly recommend you get one! They make cooking pizza at home more fun, because the pizza crust gets a texture just like the best pizza delivery restaurants near me. You can shop my pizza stone on Amazon. It’s beautiful for not only baking your favorite pepperoni pizza, but serving it, too. The color in my photos is Charcoal.

What sauce goes on taco pizza?

Serve it with your favorite Mexican inspired sauces: jalapeno ranch dressing, salsa, sour cream, hot sauce, taco sauce, a squeeze of lime juice, guacamole. The sauce used in this demo was part of a sponsored post for Instagram (it’s avocado hot sauce).

How can you add beans on taco pizza?

Here are two ideas: make a taco pizza filling that’s a bean and chicken mixture. To do this, add drained and rinsed black beans to the pizza, before adding on the cheese and baking it. Or, you can swap out the traditional tomato pizza sauce and use refried beans instead. (See tips on freezing refried beans.)

    The Perfect Pizza Setup

Want to make restaurant style pizza at home? I’ve got you covered! Here are some of my top tips, tricks, secret ingredients and tools for a pizza night everyone will look forward to, again and again.

    1. NEVER do this… Contrary to what most people believe, when baking pizza on a sheet pan, never add toppings to raw pizza dough. Instead, follow my recipe for making homemade pizza with ready made dough, which will teach you how to par bake pizza dough first.
    2. Get help from secret ingredients…
      – This dough seasoning is the secret to real Italian-tasting homemade pizza dough.
      – Add pizza seasoning to store bought pizza sauce. This makes the pizza taste really fresh!
    3. Herbs are for after… In my weekly pizza making practice, I’ve found that fresh herbs, like basil, need to be added to pizza after the pizza is done baking (so the herbs don’t wilt).
    4. Buy fresh dough and get amazing results. Yup, fresh dough from grocery stores is one of my favorite short-cuts. Learn how to use fresh Trader Joe’s pizza dough and Whole Foods pizza dough with my tutorials.
    5. Frozen pizza can taste amazing, too!! Learn how to spruce it up with this recipe for pizza using frozen crust.
    6. Slice pizza pies like a chef with just a few swipes, using big ol’ pizza cutters.
    7. Want to grill pizza? Here are some pizza grilling tools to check out.
    8. Do you really need to cook pizza on the rack? Nope! I basically never do. Here are tools you see me using in my tutorials on cooking pizza in the oven…
      – Bake pizza on a rimmed baking pan set to get a beautiful golden brown crust.
      – Love crispy crust? Let the air flow with this dishwasher safe pizza pan.
      – Get personal – let your fam / friends top their own pies with this set of personal pizza pans.

    Equipment

    • pizza stone
    • sheet pan
    • oven

    Ingredients

    • 1 ball pizza dough store bought or homemade pizza dough, let it rise on a counter 2+ hours in advance
    • 1 tbsp flour
    • 1 tsp olive oil
    • 1.5 cup pizza sauce
    • ½ tsp taco seasoning
    • 2 cups Mexican cheese shredded
    • ½ cup chicken breast cooked, diced
    • ¼ cup lettuce shredded
    • 1 to tomato diced
    • 5 to tortilla chips crushed
    • 1 tsp cilantro fresh
    • 1 tbsp avocado hot sauce or sour cream, or see notes for my jalapeno ranch dressing

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 475°F. If you’re using a pizza stone, add it to the center rack. If you’re using a sheet tray, see the notes at the bottom of this recipe for instructions (if so – you need to par bake the dough).
    • Prep pizza dough station. Dust a large cutting board with half the flour. Add the other half of the flour to the corner of the cutting board to use as you stretch the dough.
    • Stretch pizza dough. Add the raw dough to the floured surface. Dust all sides lightly with flour. Start pinching the outside 1” of the pizza dough, in a circular motion, to outline the crust and start forming a circular shaped pizza. Then alternate between pressing the center of the dough against the cutting board, and using the back of your knuckles to stretch the dough from underneath, pulling it outwards in a circular motion. Dusting the pizza dough along the way with the extra flour helps it retain a larger size instead of shrinking back up to a ball. You can also use a rolling pin (dusted with flour) to stretch it. Use as many different techniques as needed to stretch the dough. See my guide on Sip Bite Go to stretching pizza dough.
    • Carefully take the hot pizza stone out of the oven once it has preheated, and quickly brush half of the olive oil on the top of the pizza stone. Add the raw stretched pizza dough on top, and brush the rest of the olive oil along the outside 1” of the pizza crust (to give it a golden brown crust once baked).
    • Work quickly to assemble chicken taco pizza toppings so the pizza stone stays hot. Add pizza sauce to the dough and spread it around, leaving 1” on the outside without sauce for the pizza crust. Sprinkle with taco seasonings. Top with Mexican cheese blend and cooked chicken breast.
    • Bake chicken taco pizza on pizza stone for 10-15 minutes at 475°F, until Mexican cheese is melted and starts to bubble on top. You may need to rotate it in the oven and cook for an extra few minutes so the bottom crust and edges all turn golden brown.
    • Remove taco pizza from the oven and let it rest a couple minutes. Top it with a sprinkle of lettuce, tomatoes, crushed tortilla chips, cilantro, and your favorite sauces. Slice and serve when cool enough to eat.

    Notes

    • No pizza stone? No problem. See this recipe for making pizza on a baking sheet tray. The steps are a little bit different (you’ll need to parbake the dough for 7 minutes since you’re not using a pizza stone), but it’s very easy.
    • In the photos, you’ll see I used a green sauce – it’s an avocado hot sauce from a brand promotion I did on Instagram. For similar results, use a cilantro lime dressing. Or use sour cream, or make my easy jalapeno ranch dressing here on Sip Bite Go.

    Hey, I’m Jenna Passaro.

I develop easy recipes that can transform your kitchen into a restaurant – and you into a true home chef.

    Where to start?

Learn the secrets to smoking tasty Traeger recipes and making pizza at home. And cook amazing tri tip steak dinners.

Or, fall in love with something new to cook with your air fryer, pellet smoker, BBQ grill, sous vide cooker, and more…

You’ll notice, I kind of geek out over new cooking trends and tools!

    Instagram me @sipbitego & chef hubs @handmodelpatrick

My story. Growing up, I didn’t learn to cook.

(I was actually banned from cooking for years)

And then in my 20’s I didn’t have to cook because my job as an event planner involved a lot of travel and it was easier to eat out. At the time, I was 100% positive that restaurant food would always taste better than cooking at home, and there was nothing I could do about it.

Until I fell in love with a chef. He would come over and cook me delicious meals right in my own kitchen. My mind was blown.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to figure out easy ways to make restaurant style food at home and share it here on Sip Bite Go.

Love to eat out and travel? I can totally relate. See my guide on where to eat in Portland, OR.

Never in a million years did I imagine I’d ditch the 9-5 lifestyle in my late 20’s, move across the country on a whim, start a new life, start a food blog, and write a book.

    But here I am!
