    1. Mix burger meat with seasonings (salt and pepper) in a large bowl and form beef patties.
    2. Optional – stuff burger meat with cheddar cheese.
    3. Wrap burger meat with bacon. To wrap hamburger ground beef in bacon, lay 4 pieces of bacon down on a flat surface, and weave them, overlapping them like a basket weave.
    4. Place the burger patty directly in the center of the bacon weave.
    5. Pull each bacon slice around the side and top of the burger patty. All four slices of bacon will touch each other once the patty is fully wrapped.
    6. Secure the bacon to the patty with toothpicks if needed.

How to cook a bacon wrapped burger

You can cook bacon wrapped burgers in a variety of ways. This includes on a grill, in a smoker, in a cast iron skillet or in the oven. We will walk through these methods below.

Bacon Wrapped Burger Smoking On Traeger pellet grill

Grilling a burger wrapped in bacon

Quick look steps to grilling a bacon wrapped burger…

    1. Preheat your grill to 300 – 350 degrees F.
    2. Place the bacon wrapped patties directly on the grill grates and grill for 10 minutes with the lid closed.
    3. After 10 minutes, flip the burger patties and close the grill lid again and grill for another 10 minutes.
    4. Remove the bacon wrapped burgers from the grill once the internal temperature reaches your desired level of doneness. For medium-rare, pull at 130 – 135 degrees F. For a medium finish, pull at 140 – 140 degrees F. (“pull” means to remove it from the grill)
    5. Rest your bacon wrapped burgers for 10 minutes then enjoy!

See the Sip Bite Go guide to grilling burgers.

Detailed steps to grilling burgers with bacon wrapped on them

To grill a bacon wrapped burger, you should set your grill to 300 – 350 degrees F. The reason for doing a lower temperature than let’s say 500 degrees F is because you do not want to cook the bacon completely before the burger patty is done.

Grilling at a lower temperature like 350 degrees F will cook the bacon without burning while also cooking the beef patty.

Since you’re grilling at a lower temperature, it will take around 20 minutes to finish. Once you place your bacon wrapped beef patty onto the grill, close the grill.

Flip your patty after 10 minutes and close the grill again.

After around 20 minutes, your bacon and burger patty should be up to around medium-rare to medium internal temperature of 135 – 145 degrees F. Please use an internal read thermometer to double check.

Once the internal temperature reaches your desired level of doneness, remove it from the grill and allow it to rest for at least 10 minutes prior to eating or cutting.

Smoking a burger wrapped in bacon – quick overview

Quick look steps to smoke a bacon wrapped burger…

    1. Preheat the smoker and prepare the burger patty with bacon and cheese (optional).
    2. Smoke the bacon wrapped burger patty at 250 degrees F for 60 – 90 minutes
    3. Remove the burgers from the smoker at 140 degrees internal temp
    4. Rest and enjoy.

See this recipe for smoking bacon wrapped burgers stuffed with cheese.

And check out this guide on how to smoke a burger and how to make the best homemade burger patties.

Detailed look at smoking them this way

To smoke a bacon wrapped burger, you will preheat your pellet smoker to 250 degrees F.

Once preheated, place your bacon wrapped patties directly onto the grill grates and smoke for 60 – 90 minutes depending on how thick your burger patty is.

For 8 oz patties, you can expect it to take closer to that 90 minute mark to reach a medium level of doneness.

Once the internal temperature reaches 130 – 135 degrees F for medium-rare or 140 – 145 degrees F for medium, remove your burgers from the smoker and rest for at least 10 minutes prior to eating or cutting.

Quick look steps to baking a bacon wrapped burger…

    1. Preheat the oven to 300 – 350 degrees F.
    2. Place bacon wrapped burger patties onto a sheet tray or cast iron grill grate.
    3. Insert the sheet tray into the oven once preheated and bake for 10 minutes.
    4. Rotate your sheet tray 180 degrees F for an even cooking process and continue to bake for another 10 – 15 minutes.
    5. Remove the burgers from the oven at 140 degrees internal temperature for a medium finish
    6. Rest for 10 minutes and enjoy.

Detailed look at baking burgers wrapped in bacon

Most people do not think to oven bake a burger, however this may be one of the best ways to cook a bacon wrapped burger.

Since the patty is covered in bacon, using an oven to cook your burger will allow for an even cooking process. Start by preheating your oven to 300 – 350 degrees F and place your bacon wrapped patties on a sheet tray lined.

If you have a cast iron grill grate that can be inserted into your oven, you could use that too. Once the oven is preheated, insert your sheet tray in the oven on a middle rack.

The cook time is dependent on the thickness of your beef patty. Baking a bacon wrapped patty will take around 20 – 25 minutes at 350 degrees F.

While this isn’t completely necessary, you can flip the patties at the halfway point, so after 10 minutes into your cook. If your oven has hot spots like mine, I recommend that you rotate the sheet tray 180 degrees to ensure an even cook.

Use an internal read thermometer to determine doneness. If you want a medium-rare finish, pull the burgers from the oven once they reach a temp of 130 degrees F.

They’ll continue to cook during the resting period. For a medium finish, pull the burgers from the oven once they reach an internal temperature of 140 degrees F.

Cast iron searing a burger wrapped in bacon on the stove

Food Blogger Jenna Passaro From Sip Bite Go Holding A Bacon Wrapped Burger Recipe

Quick look steps to cast iron searing a bacon wrapped burger…

    1. Preheat your cast iron skillet over medium heat
    2. Add a little olive oil to the skillet and place the bacon wrapped burger patties into the skillet
    3. Flip the burger patties every 5 minutes to ensure an even cook.
    4. Cook the bacon wrapped burgers for around 20 minutes in total to your desired level of doneness.
    5. Remove the burgers from the cast iron skillet at 140 degrees internal temperature for a medium finish
    6. Rest for 10 minutes and enjoy.

See the best burger recipes on Sip Bite Go.

Detailed look at recipe for cast iron burgers wrapped in bacon

To cook a bacon wrapped burger on a cast iron skillet, first place your skillet on a burner set to medium heat.

You do not want to crank the temperature medium-high to high because you’ll either burn your bacon or finish cooking your bacon before the beef patty is done. This is a little bit of a slower cooking process.

Once your cast iron skillet is heated, add in a ½ tbsp of olive oil. Place your bacon wrapped patties into the pan and cook for 5 minutes.

Flip the patties every 5 minutes until done. The reason you want to flip the patties so often is because you want to have an even cook of both the bacon and the beef patty. Flipping the patties frequently during the cook will ensure an even cooking process.

Don’t worry, you’ll still get a nice sear on your bacon.

Plus, the patties will be cooking in their own bacon fat, so they will be juicy!

When cooking bacon wrapped burgers in a cast iron pan, you must keep your eye on them. This method is not a leave it alone method.

After about 20 minutes in total, you should have a cooked bacon wrapped burger. As always, I recommend that you use an internal read thermometer to check for doneness.

Once the internal temperature reaches 130 degrees F for medium-rare and 140 degrees F for medium, remove the burgers from the cast iron skillet and allow to rest.

    Meat thermometer recommendations

Every home chef needs a reliable meat thermometer to cook food perfectly.

On Sip Bite Go, you’ll often see me using:

    1. Meater thermometer – a fancy wireless thermometer that connects to a phone app – gifted to me from a Traeger partnership.
    2. ThermoPro digital thermometer – which has a wire that connects the thermometer to a display box outside the oven/grill.

It’s like being psychic! The great thing about either of the thermometers above is that I don’t have to take the food out of the oven to know the temperature.

How to use ‘em… What I do is stick the digital thermometer in steak, pork, chicken, whatever… Then put the food in the oven, on the smoker, or grill.

While the meat cooks, it reads the temperature so I know exactly what temp meat is as it’s cooking. Without having to take it out and check. It’s really difficult to overcook food when you know exactly what temp it is inside!

    Hey, I’m Jenna Passaro.

I develop easy recipes that can transform your kitchen into a restaurant – and you into a true home chef.

    Where to start?

Learn the secrets to smoking tasty Traeger recipes and making pizza at home. And cook amazing tri tip steak dinners.

Or, fall in love with something new to cook with your air fryer, pellet smoker, BBQ grill, sous vide cooker, and more…

You’ll notice, I kind of geek out over new cooking trends and tools!

    Instagram me @sipbitego & chef hubs @handmodelpatrick

My story. Growing up, I didn’t learn to cook.

(I was actually banned from cooking for years)

And then in my 20’s I didn’t have to cook because my job as an event planner involved a lot of travel and it was easier to eat out. At the time, I was 100% positive that restaurant food would always taste better than cooking at home, and there was nothing I could do about it.

Until I fell in love with a chef. He would come over and cook me delicious meals right in my own kitchen. My mind was blown.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to figure out easy ways to make restaurant style food at home and share it here on Sip Bite Go.

Love to eat out and travel? I can totally relate. See my guide on where to eat in Portland, OR.

Never in a million years did I imagine I’d ditch the 9-5 lifestyle in my late 20’s, move across the country on a whim, start a new life, start a food blog, and write a book.

    But here I am!
