Why youโ€™ll love this air fried onion rings side dish

    • Itโ€™s fast – ready in about 15 minutes.
    • WAY BETTER than using a baking sheet and oven to cook them (which usually turn out very hard and dry).
    • No need to get messy in the kitchen with egg and flour mixtures – the air fryer makes delicious onion rings.
    • This is an easy onion rings recipe with very few steps.
    • Includes a video for air frying beginners (scroll to bottom of page).

    Ingredients

Hereโ€™s what you need to make onion rings air fryer style.

Infographic with ingredients for making Air Fryer Onion Rings from frozen
    • A bag of frozen onion rings (the breaded or panko kind)
    • Onion ring dipping sauces of your choice
      • Honey mustard
      • Buttermilk ranch
      • BBQ sauce (my favorite when adding them to grilled burger patties)
      • Blue cheese dressing
      • Jalapeno ranch dressing with a little cilantro and garlic powder
    • Cilantro (optional)

How to make onion rings in air fryer

Now Iโ€™ll walk you through the steps…

Infographic demonstrating How to make onion rings in air fryer
    1. Set the air fryer to 375ยฐF to preheat for 5 min.
    2. Add frozen onion rings to air fryer basket (spray first with cooking spray if desired, and safe for your model of air fry machine). Make sure theyโ€™re in a single layer and not overlapping. A full bag of frozen onion rings fills up my basket, so I like to stand some up on the edges and position them so air can circulate around throughout the whole cook time.
    3. Air fry frozen onion rings for 3 minutes. Toss air fryer basket or gently flip with tongs or a spatula, then air fry for an additional 2-7 minutes until cooked to your desired level of crispness. They should be golden brown.
    4. Transfer to a serving dish and serve onion rings with blue cheese dressing, honey mustard dipping sauce, or the onion ring dip of your choice and a sprinkle of cilantro once theyโ€™re cool enough to eat.

    FAQs

    Are onion rings healthy?

Well, theyโ€™re usually battered then fried in oil, so theyโ€™re not exactly as healthy as eating an apple! But I find that air frying onion rings without oil is healthier than frying them frozen. The funny thing is, I recently was asked if onion rings are healthier than fries, and while it depends on whatโ€™s on the back of the package in the nutritional information, apparently fries are a little healthier.ย

Where can you get shallow bowls for serving onion ring condiments?

In the Sip Bite Go air fryer onion rings photos, Iโ€™m actually using tea cups I got on a trip to China years ago when I was working for a tech startup. But I also own these cute, modern white condiment bowls. A staple for both prep and serving in my kitchen is something like these mini glass ramekin bowls. And these stainless steel condiment bowls give off a restaurant style or pub vibe.
